Mile 1,545.4 - 1,571.0

We woke up to a clear sky. The last few days we have been treated to thunderstorms that have kept things cooler. Last night both Balance and I used our cold weather clothes for sleeping. We haven't used these since the Sierras but it's nice not to be sweating at night.
The terrain started to level off once we climbed out of Dunsmuir. We are in a little hiker lull. We haven't seen many hikers the last few days. It's strange getting the feeling of being alone out here, because we certainly are not. Still it's nice even for a day to have a real wilderness experience.

A lot of red rock here in Northern California.

Anyone know what these are? Pretty neat though.

Beautiful morning weather. Cool, clear, and crisp.

Balance at lunch.

Y-Knot on the rocks.

  1. Dad and I think the odd plants you saw are a variety of pitcher plant. The water-holding part of the flower is below the big hood. Very nice shots from this section, andit sounds like really pleasant hiking, for a change!
