Mile 1,454.2 - 1,477.9

To our surprise, it rained overnight. Not a big deal but we sleep with the rainfly off so we get air and so we can see the stars. So at 12:30am we woke to rain drops hitting our faces. I quickly grabed my headlamp and went to work. It only takes a minute to put the fly on but it's always a panic doing so.
By nights end it was still raining and cool. What a treat we thought. No, we don't want to get soaked but a nice cool wet morning would be a nice change for us. The morning was on and off rain showers, mostly they felt good. The rain was just enough to keep the dust down.
For the first time I decided to hike in shorts and short sleeves. The reason I hike in long sleeve shirt and pants is to avoid sunburn, mosquitoes bites, keep the dust off my legs, and most of all keep away from poison oak. Poison oak is everywhere. It borders the trail in spots and is overgrown in others.  We really do not want to get poison oak and do our best to avoid it.

Mt. Shasta from afar and in a mist.

Y-Knot enjoying the cool morning for a change. It didn't last long though. The sun came out by noon and it was hot and muggy.

Balance looking out into those blue mountains. This area reminded us of the Blue Ridge Parkway on the AT.

We were on this open ridge for a few miles during the morning rains. It's the coolest we have been in a long time. Although the last time it rained we almost got hypothermia. This was a much warmer rain.

Balance cooling off in the hot afternoon at this stream. We take our shoes off and soak our feet at many of these streams and wash up a little. Of course we fill our water bottles.

This is common out here on the PCT. Balance making her way over a huge fallen tree across the trail. Many fallen trees have been cut by trail workers but they can only do so much. It's an amazing amount of work to maintain a section of trail. We are thankful for those who do this work.
