Mile 1,501.6 - 1,506.5

Today was a planned nero. Just a few miles of hiking this morning. The interesting part of today was that the trail came right out onto Interstate 5, which runs the length of the country north to south.
That's where we had to hitch a ride into the town of Dunsmuir. We tried hitching for about an hour before realizing that no one is going to stop on the highway as they are traveling 80 mph. We walked back to the trailhead and found Bigfoot Jim and Structure getting a ride from a friend. We yogied a ride with them to Dunsmuir.
Dunsmuir is a small town which we like. We seem to be the only hikers here tonight. Other hikers went farther on I-5 to the larger town of Shasta.

Balance hiking this morning.

We tried...

And tried... To no avail. I-5 just wasn't the place to hitchhike. Y-Knot even pulled out the " hiker to town " sign.

Not sure why, but Dunsmuir is claiming to have the best water on earth. We have to look into that.

Not our favorite trail town but we liked it. It could have had a better grocery store, but it worked. May be a hard hitch back to trail tomorrow. We will see!

  1. I see you crossed the Sacramento River right here. Dunsmuir is right on the river.
