No big parade or party here in Sierra City. The tiny town only has 220 residents. Fireworks are not allowed due to the extreme drought they are having. We woke up to no electricity. The whole town was out of power. So that means we can't get the morning breakfast we thought we could as the only restaurant in town is closed with no power.
We were going to hang out in town for awhile but we decided to hitch a ride back to the trail and start the 8 mile climb we have facing us.
We didn't even have our thumbs out yet and a very nice woman stopped and asked if we needed a ride. We did, and were so grateful.
Balance is still sick. Though she got a few new meds, she is not feeling well or herself. So the 8 mile climb didn't help things but it was a gradual climb, just long.
Beautiful sites on the ridge line but we were happy to have some tree cover later in the day.
It was difficult finding a camp spot tonight. Unlovely ground, rocky, and a ATV trail right next to ours made it hard to pick a site. We are tired as always. Time to eat, clean up, and go to sleep.
1,200 miles hiked! Hard to believe that we are not even halfway yet. Oh my!
Balance climbing the easy grade at the beginning of the 8 miles upward.
Y-Knot peering down at Sierra City.
Can you find Balance?
Our camping site for the night. We are perched high above 4 lakes. One of our better camping spots, but it wasn't easy finding one tonight.
Very sorry and concerned to learn that Bonnie is not well...but I know she is tough. That's been proven over and over!
ReplyDeleteLove the tall trees you are now walking through!
