Mile 1,432.3 - 1,454.2

Today we were given the challenge of dealing with gnats buzzing in our face while wiping sweat from our brow. I would like to say we won because we made it through the day but those gnats can drive you crazy. Balance used her headnet for part of the day.
It was another low water day so planning was important. Another hot and humid day but we were blessed with some clouds which kept things a touch cooler.
We have been able to see Mt. Shasta now for days. It is snow covered and always seems to be in a haze. Shasta is a volcano and stands alone. Nothing around it comes close to its height.

Balance recited Dr. Suess's "The Lorax" to me. Very impressive, and a great tale. If you have read it, you'll understand this photo. "UNLESS"  (Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, things aren't going to get better. They're not.)

We came across these PCTA trail volunteers. We couldn't thank them enough for their hard work. It is the volunteers that make this trail what it is. Thanks to all the volunteers along the PCT.

Y-Knot taking a break in a custom made PCT chair, made by the trail volunteers.

Notice the strange bend in the trees that Balance is walking through?
