It was a dream day, hiking wise. It was mostly downhill and fairly easy other than some rocky sections.
We made it the 16 miles and came out to Highway 48 only to see 3 other hikers already trying to hitch into town. Not good since we have to do the same. Within a minute the 3 got a ride and few minutes later and nice woman stopped for us. She drove us the one and a half miles to town and showed us the church camping. We went to the one and only store in town. Sierra City is the type of town we love. Very small, and easy to get around. It is the simple towns we like. The big towns have too many options and are too spread out to make them hiker-friendly.
The motels in this town are few and expensive and it's the 3rd of July. So we opted for the free church camping but they have restrooms. Balance even showered at an RV park down the street.
While at the store we got invited for dinner by the nicest couple who happened to be in the RV park for the night. Veggie, Snickers, and their son Pudding. All trail names of course. It was such an incredible meal with incredible company that we were in heaven. All our troubles went away and a breath of fresh air for us. We really enjoyed our time with our new friends. Thank you so much for your generosity Veggie, Snickers, and Pudding. We won't forget this night anytime soon.
Y-Knot scrambles up the loose rocks early this morning.
Sierra City is in the valley of this monster peak which we have to climb tomorrow.
Our Sierra City church camping. This tiny yard filled up with about 20 tents before the end of the day. Tent city!
Our hiking friends, Soft Egg, Justin, and Luke. Just hanging out in Sierra City.
Sierra City's country store. It had enough for us to buy 5 days of food. Yes we shopped smarter too. I bought gallon of OJ and a pint of blueberries and a pint of raspberries. That tasted so good. We needed that.
Snickers, Pudding, Veggie, and Y-Knot just after an amazing dinner at their RV. They invited us after we met them coming into town and again at the country store. We haven't eaten like that in a long time. We can't thank you enough. We enjoyed every minute of it. What a nice family. Enjoy the rest of your vacation(s).
