Mile 2,027.0 - 2,049.2

Today was not the best of days. It's a shame too, because we were supposed to get great views of Mt. Jefferson, but it was in the clouds all day. Today was our first full day of rain. It started raining by late morning, stopped for a short time, and then rained the rest of the day. It wasn't a downpour but just steady. I was able to try out my umbrella I just bought in Sisters when I heard the forecast. Balance didn't want one, saying she likes to use her poles and can't hold an umbrella. I really liked it. It's just a small cheap umbrella, but it kept me mostly dry. You still get wet, no matter what your are wearing or holding. The plants by the trails's edge are soaked and of course we bump into these overgrown shrubs and get wet. Very wet.
To make matters worse, our tent and gear were soaked from last nights rain, so setting it up tonight in the rain was not fun.

Mt. Jefferson early this morning.

Shale Lake.

Balance and her rain poncho.

Mt. Jefferson in the clouds.

Balance crossing a snowfield on the north side of Mt. Jefferson.

Y-Knot in the clouds. It almost looks like smoke from a wildfire.

More snowfields to cross. The rain started again on this descent. A wet day for us. Hope we can dry out tomorrow.

  1. Hi - it's Mom, typing on Rosie's computer. That's a great photo of Bonnie on the shores of Shale Lake. But crossing those snow fields looks cold!
