Mile 1,737.8 - 1,762.6

Another day, another issue. It's always something on the PCT. Our issue now is serious. Wildfires! They are everywhere, and it's getting bad. Today the sky was full of smoke and we can smell it, see it, and feel it in our lungs.
The trail is still open but at any time the Forest Department can close it. Those lightening storms caused many fires in the dry hills of Northern California and Southern Oregon.
We are told that a section we just came through in Northern California is now closed due to a fire. So hikers who are farther back have to detour or hitch around it.
We are not sure what is going to happen as we hike north. We will just take it day by day and be as safe as we can. We already know of two other fires in Northern Oregon that are on or near the PCT.

Balance crossing Highway 66. This is where we got dropped off yesterday before realizing it was the wrong spot. So we hitched back to the right spot and hiked the 16 miles to here.

I think we both know our limits now. Limitless! Anything is possible.

The Hyatt Reservoir outlet.

Balance filling up her water bottle. This great source was just off the trail. I believe the Hyatt Recreation Deparent put this here to help hikers.

  1. Great sign, very true. Way to go in testing your limits!
