Mile 334.4 - 352.6

Today was our earliest start to date. We were packed up and hiking by 5:50am. Why you ask? McDonald's is the answer. Neither one of us has stepped foot into a McDonald's in 25 years, yet now we are racing 8 miles to get there in time for breakfast. I believe this is the only McDonald's that is right on the trail ( .4 miles off trail ). McDonald's and a gas station / mini mart are located at I-15 which the trail passes under. We made it for breakfast and then some. See photos!

High Voltage Balance.

Amazing scenery day. Heading towards I-15.

Not the sign you want to see. We still have more miles to hike than the entire Appalachian Trail. Which is 2,181 miles long. Hard to believe. One day at a time.

Have you ever spent a day at McDonald's? Yes, I said a day. We spent 7 hours at this McDonalds. Along with many other hikers. We ate breakfast, lunch, and ice cream while waiting out the 97 degree heat of the mid day. We arrived at 8am and didn't leave until 3pm and still hiked over 18 miles of very steep terrain.

We were in McDonald's so long Balance even had time to read a book in between courses.

This says it all. Although the relax part is an understatement while hiking everyday. Our appetites are huge and our pants are falling off our waists. We can't eat enough calories to keep up with our hiking. Our diets have gone haywire.

Balance passing under I-15.

A very steep 10 miles, fueled by McDonalds. We hiked until it got dark and finally cooled.

  1. Bet you wore off all those McD calories all too fast. It's good you were able to get some substantial calories there [the place is good for that, anyway!]

We are loving the variety and creativity in your trail pictures. This set was a good example - the tunnel shot, for instance. And I loved the shot looking down on I-15. I follow along on a google map, and could find pretty much the very ridge you were standing on when you took that shot.

  2. McDonalds, really? What next, Mike? Cigarets, alcohol and drugs? " Y-Knot ! "

Been following your trip. Incredible sights and vistas! Can't say I wish I was there though - no matter how adventurous, the Journey looks too arduous . Will continue to enjoy the view sedentarily through your blog. Keep hiking.. Good luck.
