Mile 210.8 - 229.4

Our stay at Ziggy and the Bears was both good and bad. First the bad. It was very windy at night and the tarps they had set up were blowing all night, making it hard to sleep. Also about 40 hikers slept there last night, so it was a little crazy. The good far outweighed the bad. They gave everyone a huge bowl of ice cream and had a breakfast for us first thing in the morning. The best part was they had Epsom salt foot baths and showers for all. Very generous folks.
Today was extremely hot and dry again. Lots of switchbacks making you feel as though you are not making any forward. It seems like 1 mile forward is really 5 miles on the PCT.

Balance moving forward in the loose sand.

The Whitewater River.

Y-Knot has changed his hat 3 times already. First one was a super wide brim sun hat which was good but in strong winds it was hard to keep on. Second hat was a visor and a buff. That didn't offer enough protection from this brutal sun all day. Third is this set up you see in the photo above. I got it out of the hiker box at Ziggy and the Bears. Someone got rid of it, so I wash it and tried it out today. Not bad but the brim is a little to short so I needed a bandana for side and back of neck protection.

Looking back at the Whitewater River from high above.

Can you find our trail? Yes, it snakes its way through all of these mountains.

The best for last. Y-Knot soaking in Mission Creek during the heat of the day.

  1. Well, these are impressive mountains, even if they are so barren [and cold and windswept]. Neat shot of Mike "in" the water [half in, anyway!]
