Mile 162.8 - 178 ( Fire Closure )

Today is our first zero day, which means no hiking. Well we did have a mile to walk in 30 temperatures early this morning just to get to a hitching point. Idyllwild is 17 miles away. 5 minutes after hitching 2 cars pulled over at once. It was husband and wife, Richard and Karin. Balance and I each hopped into one of the cars and off we went to town. They dropped us off at their lumber business which was right in the center of this small town of Idyllwild. First order of business was laundry. As we were doing laundry, Richard came walking in and ask us if we wanted to say the night in their neighbors cabin who is away at the time. Of course we would, thank you so much. How nice are people?
We spent the day walking about town doing all the errands a hiker needs to do. Richard and Karin came back later in the day and picked us up at the library and off to the cabin just a mile away. This has been amazing. Everyday we say to ourselves what will today bring. We never imagined this. This cabin belongs to a man named Mark. So to Mark, Richard, and Karin, we can't thank you enough. We had a great stay indoors out of the cold, rain and sleet last night. We can never thank you enough.

The beautiful cabin we stayed in hidden in the tall pine trees. We fell in love with this small town of Idyllwild.

  1. I can see why you would like Idyllwild - I studied it on google maps, and it's a lot of small homes nestled into the wooded hillside, and then a small downtown with a lot of trees.

  2. What a great cabin tucked into the trees, on a cold night! The trail angels never stop, pretty amazing.
