Mile 132.0 - 151.7

Flowering cactus everywhere.

Balance fighting the mid-day heat.

An Australian couple at the water cache. These water cache are done by trail angels with their own money and time. Every hiker is so thankful for these. This year is an extremely dry year and all hikers would be in trouble without these.
Rule of thumb: never expect them to be full of water and at most take a liter or two. Save the rest for the hikers down trail.

This is unbelievable. Yes, another trail angel putting on a trail magic cookout. This was put on by a local woman named Mary. There was a sign at the trail saying BBQ with an arrow pointing to this oasis. Mary saw us reading the sign and waved us down. Just awesome people, who want to help tired and hungry hikers.

This is Mary who put on this huge spread. She cooked the hamburgers. Also there was chips, cold drinks, watermelon, apples, and brownies. I think I had one of everything. No such thing as being on a diet while hiking all day. Anything and everything goes while on the PCT. Thank you so much trail angel Mary. That hit the spot at just the right time for us, 3pm break. On top of all that, Mary had a stack of PCT postcards. She asked if everyone would write a Happy Mother's Day to our Mom's and she would stamp them and send them off. Mary really out did herself. It doesn't get any better then that.

  1. I love the florescent vibrancy of the wildflowers--camera is picking those up well.

Did Mary do all that herself? AND mailed the postcards--that is such a nice little touch, to think that hikers would be wanting to do that, and to make it possible. Trail angels are the antidote to all that is warped and going wrong in the world--so much generosity.
