Mile 893.2 - 906.5

We are very excited about our rest day tomorrow in Mammoth. We have a lot to do, but rest is our main goal.
For today we have just 13 miles to hike and we will be in Red's Meadow, which has a small store and cafe. More important is that they have bus service to take hikers from Red's to the town of Mammoth Lakes.
We did just that. After the fairly easy 13 miles which we finished by 11:30am, we boarded the bus for town. We had to change buses two more times just to get to our motel for tonight and tomorrow night. A real rest day coming up. What a relief, as the past week has really put a toll on our minds and bodies. It was the most amazing scenery of the trip but it came with a price. Our legs, lungs, and backs. As always we made it through the tough times, only with new challenges ahead. We will tackle those with renewed energy on Wednesday.

It's so nice being in tall trees again.

This area near Red's Meadow had a fire and a windstorm. Almost all trees here are either burnt or blown over.

We are not finished with the high passes but for today it was mostly level or downhill to Red's Meadow.

The amazing "John's Pizza Works" in Mammoth. We ordered the giant size 19 inch BBQ pizza. No, we didn't finish it. We will have the rest tomorrow for lunch on our rest day. It's nice to be hiking everyday, but it's also nice going into town and eating real food and lots of it. We can't eat enough while in town to make up for the lack of food on trail. Trail food just isn't enough calories.
