We are staying at the Williamson Motel which is kind enough to pick hikers up at the trailhead which is this crazy 13 mile road that twists and turns its way up the mountain side.
Our friends Grommet and Ketchup sent us a food box at the post office here in town. We were so excited to receive this. Food is all hikers think about while on trail. Thank you so much Grommet and Ketchup. We hiked with Grommet the first few days of this trip until she got ill and had to get off trail. We have kept in touch via texting and she plans on hiking the PCT next year now.
Even through we hiked a hard 8 miles today, this is our rest day and we plan on hitting the trail tomorrow morning. We ate enough calories today to sink a ship, so we should be ready for more Sierras. A lot more high passes are coming up. Some with a lot of snow on them. It should be an exciting week to come.
We ate dinner with our hiking friends Sizzler and Michael at this fine dining French cafe. I had a burger that would knock your socks off. Like I said before "anything goes on the PCT"
Early morning at Bullfrog Lake.
Our view climbing Kearsarge Pass as the early morning light hits the mountains.
Y-Knot on the summit of Kearsarge Pass at 11,780'. Now it's 5 miles straight down to the trailhead to the town of Indepedence.
Balance and Michael about to descend the pass. We need food and rest.
The scenery keeps getting better.
Sizzler, Michael, and Balance as we head out for dinner to the one and only open restaurant in town.
Yum! Burger and dinner plate look fantastic, as do your hiking companions. I have become quite fond of Sizzler, as I feel we know him now, too. Lake is beautiful as well--a good reason to detour off the PCT.
ReplyDeleteI followed this trail past Bullfrog Lake, Pothole, Heart, and Flower Lakes. What spectacular scenery in this section! Great photos! Those must be the Kearsarge Pinnacles in your shots.
ReplyDeleteThen I followed the crazy road down from the trailhead into the little town. But all worth it, to get a good dinner and some rest! Actually, it's a darn good thing that little town is even there...
