Mile 592.8 - 617.1

Today water was on the minds of all hikers. We are in an area where water sources are few and far between. To be honest, it's a little scary. We have some 30 plus mile stretches without any water coming up. That means we must carry our maximum amount of water, which equals a very heavy load. But it's better than running out of water here in the desert. You would not last long without water and trying to hike 20 plus miles. To my credit, I insisted that we carry 5 liters each out of the last spring and not rely on a cache up ahead. When we reached the cache, it was completely empty. Wow, that was a close call and maybe a game changer. Rule number one: never rely on a cache, and we didn't. Thank goodness!

The morning started off cool and in a pine forest.

We hit our 600th mile today.

Our early break at Robin Bird Spring. This  was a nice flowing spring. Everyone is so happy to see water. It's our lifeline out here. Left to right: Sizzler, Balance, Pesky, and Matt.

Balance walking through a burn area but with beautiful lupines blooming.

The sun is going down and we are looking for a camp spot. Incredible evening light on the barren mountains behind us.

We found a great site next to this Joshua Tree.
