Mile 558.2 - 568.6

Our plan today is to maximize our time in the town of Mojave. We enjoyed a relaxing morning, with breakfast at a neighboring diner. Then a resupply at the market next to the diner. Everything was close together making it a easy to walk to. We stayed in town until 4pm and got a ride back to the PCT from trail angel "Ted".

Balance after shopping at the market. We need 7 days of food to make it to Kennedy Meadows. That's a lot of food, and it weighs a lot. Combine that with several liters of water and our pack weight soars. Leaving town is always the heaviest, and coming into town is always the lightest.

Balance reading a book outside the pool area of our Mojave motel. We waited out the heat of the day in the shade.

Back on trail by 4pm. Left to right: Lewis, Half Dome, Joyce, and Balance.

Very strong winds in this area. We got knocked off the trail several times.

Balance and Y-Knot making their way through the wind farm.

Thousands of windmills.

Balance heading towards Highway 58.

Rule number one: Never rely on a water cache. It could be empty, and then you're in trouble. We did need water here and were very thankful it was stocked. We take only the minimum we need to get to the next water source, which is tomorrow about 15 miles away. We found a camping spot just as it got dark out.
