Mile 2,401.7 - 2,420.7

Yesterday was a rest day, or what hikers call a zero day. We didn't want or plan on taking a zero day, but the weather forecast was calling for heavy rain from mid afternoon to the next morning. It was frustrating because the morning looked ok, but sure enough by mid afternoon the skies opened up and it never stopped raining until the next morning. We made the right decision this time. We were so happy looking out our motel window at the rain, all clean and dry. I did think about all the hikers who were caught out in this storm. I'm sure it wasn't a good night for them.
Even this morning it was still raining, but the forecast called for clearing by noon. We took our time and hiked out around 9:30am into a thick fog and a light mist. It was cool too, around the high 50's. We stayed warm with a major climb out of Snoqualmie Pass. Once we gained elevation and were on the ridge line the temperature was cooler and the winds were whipping as we traversed the boulders above tree line. By late afternoon the sun slowly worked its way out and huge mountains began to appear.

Mirror, mirror on the wall. All packed up and ready to roll at 9:30am this morning. We waited for better weather.

The most colorful tree fungus we have seen.

More mountain mist as we climbed out of Snoqualmie Pass.

Can you see Balance rising from the clouds?

By late afternoon it cleared and the sun was out, just like the forecast called for. Love it when that happens.
